De Nederlandse Orgel Federatie
The Nederlandse Orgel Federatie (NOF) is a national association that aims to preserve the remaining theatre and cinema organs in the Netherlands.
The members and volunteers
The NOF has members and active volunteers who keep the theatre organs going with heart and soul.
For us and our children
Technical teams
Several active members maintain, overhaul and repair the theatre organs. This costs a lot of time and money.
All for the benefit of the Theatre Organ
All income is for the benefit of the organ itself.
The volunteers do not earn anything from this.
Questions and answers
An example of the most frequently asked questions and answers about the theatre organ
Many people who have never experienced a theatre organ do not realise that there are no loudspeakers.
The music you hear comes from real musical instruments.
These real musical instruments are strategically placed behind two separate spaces (organ chambers) which are connected to the audience and organist via large wooden slats (shutters).
Every key that is pressed by the organist on the console is translated into a command above to the solenoid valve which in turn sends air to a bellows which then operates the musical instrument.
You can enjoy our theatre organs worldwide
But of course it is more fun and impressive to experience our theatre organs in person
That is why we cordially invite you to enjoy this beautiful musical instrument with us

The Tuschinski organ In 1921, the Amsterdam Tuschinski Theater was the first cinema in the Netherlands with a theater organ. Abraham Tuschinski had heard about the great success of the Wurlitzer organs in American theaters and wanted to have such an organ in his hall at the opening. However, the Wurlitzer factory could not possibly deliver on time. But Tuschinski had heard that a Wurlitzer organ had recently been installed in Brussels. Abraham Tuschinski went to Brussels and managed to persuade the cinema owner there with a lot of persuasion (and a large sum of money) to transfer the organ that had just been delivered to him. On his way back to Amsterdam, Tuschinski took a few vital parts with him – maybe they started to doubt in Brussels...
